When I first heard the theme 'Rewilding – Learning to Embrace the Path Unknown,' I immediately thought about my own journey over the last few months.
Like rewilding in nature, where landscapes are allowed to evolve in unexpected ways, my role has taken me into unfamiliar territory at a pace I never anticipated. What started as a new opportunity with Remington Hall quickly became a journey of learning, adapting and growing within the world of social housing.
I'll admit, there have been moments where I've felt completely outside my comfort zone. Learning about noise nuisance, understanding legislation and guidance, analysing evidence, and preparing professional reports were all things I hadn't imagined myself doing not so long ago. At first, it felt like learning a new language. There was so much to take in, and I questioned whether I would ever feel confident.
But that's the thing about embracing the unknown—you don't need to have all the answers on day one. You simply need to be willing to keep learning.
Each report I've written has built my confidence. Every conversation with colleagues has taught me something new. Every case has helped me understand not just the technical side of the role, but the human side too. Behind every complaint is a person, a family, or a community looking for support, and that's what makes working in social housing so meaningful.
Rewilding isn't about abandoning what you know; it's about allowing yourself to grow beyond it. I've realised that the skills I already had—listening, problem-solving, empathy and resilience—have been just as important as the new knowledge I've gained. They've helped me navigate unfamiliar processes and trust that confidence comes through experience, not perfection.
Looking back, I can see that I really have embraced the path unknown. What once felt daunting has become exciting. I still have so much to learn, but instead of fearing what I don't know, I'm beginning to welcome it.
Rewilding teaches us that growth doesn't always happen on well-trodden paths. Sometimes the most rewarding journeys are the ones we never planned to take.
As women working in social housing, we face change with courage every day. We adapt, we learn, we support one another, and we continue to grow alongside the communities we serve.
My journey with Remington Hall has reminded me that stepping into the unknown isn't about having certainty—it's about having the confidence to keep moving forward, even when the path hasn't yet been mapped.
Sometimes, that's where the greatest growth begins.
