WISH London Climbs New Heights to Inspire Future Generations

The #ChooseHousing campaign is a vital catalyst for this change, breaking myths and showcasing real stories of those making a difference every day.

At WISH (Women in Social Housing) London, we are proud to stand behind the #ChooseHousing campaign, led by CIH President Elly Hoult FCIH. This powerful movement is about rewriting the narrative around careers in housing. It’s time to stop saying “I fell into housing” and start saying, “I chose housing.”

The campaign spotlights the endless possibilities the housing sector offers; careers that don’t just provide jobs but change lives. In housing, we don’t just build homes; we build futures, strengthen communities, and create lasting social impact.

At WISH London, this resonates deeply. Our mission is rooted in empowering women, breaking barriers, and driving diversity and inclusion in the housing and construction sectors. We believe the future of our sector relies on bringing in fresh talent, new perspectives, and diverse voices that truly reflect the communities we serve.

Recently, this spirit was on full display when members from WISH Board Pippa Pang and Christina Byrne joined colleagues from across the sector to take on a daring 9-storey abseil challenge at Burridge Gardens, Wandsworth. Every step down that building wasn’t just about courage; it was a symbol of commitment to making housing visible, accessible, and inspiring to future generations. Their efforts raised vital funds for Barnardo’s, supporting young people to gain the confidence, skills, and guidance to start their own career journeys.

But we’re not stopping there. The WISH London team is now stepping up for the Thames Bridges Trek on 13th September 2025. We’re walking 10km across London’s iconic bridges; not just to fundraise for Barnardo’s, but to amplify the message: housing is a career of purpose, passion, and impact.

“As Chair of WISH London, I’m incredibly proud to be part of this movement,” says Hony Premlal.
“This is more than a challenge; it’s a call to action. We must make housing a career that young people, especially women and those from underrepresented backgrounds, actively choose. Our sector has the power to transform lives; not just for residents, but for those who work within it. Through #ChooseHousing, we can open doors, spark ambition, and drive lasting change.”

The #ChooseHousing campaign is a vital catalyst for this change, breaking myths, highlighting the diverse range of careers available, and showcasing real stories of those making a difference every day, from frontline services to boardrooms.

To everyone reading this, whether you’re an employer, a leader, or someone who simply believes in the power of community, you can play your part. Support this campaign. Share the message; Fundraise; Inspire.

Together, we can change the narrative. Together, we can make housing a career of choice.
